The latest AFTN Soccer Show is out for another packed show of Vancouver Whitecaps, MLS, and Canadian Premier League chat.
British Columbia is under a heat dome, but thankfully the Whitecaps lifted some of the dark clouds over the team this weekend with a battling draw in Seattle to end a five game losing streak. It wasn't enough to stop them sinking to bottom in the West but it's given some hope.
We pick over the bones of that game and the midweek loss to LA Galaxy, hear from head coach Marc Dos Santos and DP striker Lucas Cavallini, and look ahead at how the 'Caps can build on a positive performance. They still need a number 10 badly. Is Scottish player Ryan Gauld the man? We chat about the transfer rumour we broke and hear MDS' thoughts on the player.
The Canadian Premier League kicked off this weekend and our feature interview this episode is with new FC Edmonton head coach Alan Koch as we talk about building the Eddies roster and what to expect from the side this season. Plus we hear from CPL commissioner David Clanachan, Pacific FC head coach Pa Modou Kah, and HFX Wanderers' Stephen Hart.
Here's the rundown for the main segments from the episode:
01.45: Intro and football cards
05.32: The aftermath of the Whitecaps loss to LA
16.20: Whitecaps v Sounders - postgame analysis with audio from MDS and Cavalliini

The latest AFTN Soccer Show is out for another packed show of Vancouver Whitecaps, MLS, and international football chat.
It's just non-stop football, football, football right now, or at least it is here at AFTN Towers. Hopefully you've got room for some more soccer chat because we have a lot to cover in this episode, both domestically and internationally.
The Whitecaps and MLS were back in action after a lengthy break, and while the 'Caps will be left wishing they were still on one, there was a lot of goals and a lot of talking points across the weekend.
We pick over the bones of the Whitecaps' loss at RSL and ponder, yet again, where they go now and whether they risk being cut adrift from the rest of the pack by the time they even get to return to Vancouver. We also hear from both head coaches and look at the action across the league this weekend.
Turning our attention to the international stage we look at the Canadian men's national team reaching the last round of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, the road ahead to reach Qatar, and chat about where we feel the seven home matches should be played. Plus we look back at a fantastic start to the Euros.

The latest AFTN Vancouver Whitecaps preview show is out.
The Whitecaps have called Sandy, Utah their home away from home so far this season. On Friday night, they'll be the away team at that home to take on Real Salt Lake as MLS gets back at it after a lengthy international break.
It's been nearly four week since the 'Caps kicked a ball in action. Head coach Marc Dos Santos has worked on some stuff at training during that time. Will we see the fruits of that labour on Friday?
Joe and Gideon return to preview the match and ponder the threat RSL pose and whether all that time in Utah makes this a more level playing field for the 'Caps, who are desperately needing to get back to winning ways after three straight road losses. What kind of Whitecaps side will we see?

While the world may be watching international teams fight for glory across many continents, we're staying closer to home for the bulk of this episode as we bring you an in-depth one-on-one with Vancouver Whitecaps CEO and Sporting Director Axel Schuster and unpack some of the stuff he had to say.
The MLS season is a fifth of the way in the books right now and the Whitecaps are out of the playoff places, but still very much in touch. Can they sustain that with the squad they have? Does Axel feel he's provided MDS will the necessary tools to be a playoff team? Will there be new additions coming?
With the 'Caps desperately needing some help in the midfield, will it finally be coming in the summer transfer window? Well, yes, but it may not be what everyone is expecting or hoping for?

The latest AFTN Soccer Show is out for another packed show of Vancouver Whitecaps, Canadian national team, and general football chat.
Most of the world's attention is on the international game this week between World Cup qualifiers and the Euros finally getting underway, and we're no different as we look at Canada's big win over Aruba and the qualifying path that awaits them this month.
But we also turn our attention to the domestic scene, as the Whitecaps make a new addition in striker Brian White, loan out forward David Egbo, and still haven't acquired a number 10 to create the chances for the strikers to finish. With hopes of heading back to Canada soon, how tough a job is it going to be to market the team after 18 months without fans and mixed results on the pitch? Do enough people still care?
We also delve into the newly announced June start to the Canadian Premier League, discuss the art of writing football songs with singer/songwriter Neil Grant, get in the Euros spirit with his latest song, and Moscow Death Brigade kick off being our Artists of the Month.
