The latest AFTN Soccer Show is out for another packed show of Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, and Canadian football chat.
The new MLS season is seven weeks away and the news around the league is really starting to ramp up. There's new signings, new kits, new managerial vacancies, and doubts surrounding new teams. We chat about all of that and more this episode.
In Whitecapsland a new defensive signing is set to be announced this week, with Angolan-Portuguese right back Bruno Gaspar joining on loan from CP Sporting. What will this mean for the porous Vancouver backline, which is now one of the most expensive in MLS history.
Our feature interview this week is with one of those defensive pieces, goalkeeper Evan Newton. We have a lengthy chat with Evan about his move to Vancouver and his career so far. What advice did his mentor Jon Busch give him? Why did it take so long for the USL standout to get back to MLS? How did he unintentionally derail NYCFC's Champions League preparations? All this and more are discussed in a very enjoyable chat.
We also delve into Thierry Henry's departure in Montreal and hear from VP and CEO Kevin Gilmore and Sporting Director Olivier Renard about his decision and where that leaves the club. But Montreal haven't been the only MLS side thrown into chaos this week as we look at the current mess in Sacramento, who have just lost their majority owner two years before they are set to join the league.
Plus we continue our travels back in the TARDIS with Whitecaps midfielder Andy Rose to talk about revisiting some football history, find out Jake Nerwinski's favourite jam, and a goalkeeping legend features in this week's Wavelength.
