From back to back to back to the earth with a bump. That's the difference a week in MLS makes.
Vancouver Whitecaps' busy month continued, with a loss at home to Atlanta United and a hard fought draw in Kansas City. We round-up what's been an even busier week around MLS and bring you some audio from the new all-time leading scorer in the league, a very happy and humble Chris Wondolowski.
We also chat with Marc Dos Santos about the difficulties of integrating young players into the current 'Caps team, talk CPL and USL League 2, continue our 1979 NASL Soccer Bowl celebrations, and I, Ludicrous are back in our Wavelength section.

Back to back wins certainly puts a spring in our step. As does the veritable feast of football that we had around this world this past week. And we talk about a lot of it in this week's show.
We kick things off with an analysis of Vancouver Whitecaps' 1-0 win over Portland Timbers in MLS action on Friday night. A great defensive display that saw the 'Caps, temporarily at least, move into the playoff places, but most certainly now in the mix. We look at the good, the bad, and the ugly from the match, the supporters walkout, and the concerns the team still give us.
Our feature interview this week is with Whitecaps defender Ali Adnan, as we sit down with the Iraqi international to talk about his footballing life so far, from playing football as a little boy in Iraq to his footballing family, the moves to Turkey and Italy, and now to MLS.
We also chat with Marc Dos Santos about technology in the modern game and MLS managers complaining, to Will Cromack about the new TSS Rovers season, continue our 1979 NASL Soccer Bowl celebrations, and more!

Thursday May 09, 2019
Thursday May 09, 2019
It's the second Cascadia derby of the season for Vancouver Whitecaps on Friday as the great unwashed hordes from Portland descend on BC Place. Can the 'Caps cut the Timbers down to size or will this be another poor derby outing at home?
Joe, Nick, and Peter are back with AFTN's latest preview podcast as they look ahead to the match. Both teams head into the game on the back of wins, with Portland starting to find their groove with three victories now on the bounce. Can the 'Caps stop their deadly attack and take advantage of their leaky defence? Will MDS go for an unchanged line-up or make some tweaks? And is Fredy Montero now about to go on one of his goalscoring streaks?
All this and more are discussed, so have a listen!
Just as a PSA, the sound for the initial couple of minutes of this episode is a little off with the levels but that's quickly rectified.

Another busy week is in the book and it was a rare winning one for Vancouver Whitecaps. At least on the pitch.
Thankfully the 'Caps didn't have to send out any Mayday cries for help from Colorado, although they were made to work hard in their 2-1 win over the Rapids. We look back at that match, the main talking points coming out of it for the team and individual players, and have a quick look ahead to Portland coming to town on Friday night.
We also catch up with Whitecaps right back Scott Sutter who took in Pacific FC's first ever match last weekend. We get his thoughts on the CPL, his friendships with Pacific head coach Michael Silberbauer and co-owner Josh Simpson, and chat about his own coaching plans and how it's making him look at games a little bit differently.
We also look at the continuing scandals surround the Whitecaps off the pitch, plus we continue our 1979 NASL Soccer Bowl celebrations, look at the annoyance that was VAR in MLS this week, and Football Violence Awareness Month wraps up with The Men They Couldn't Hang in our latest Wavelength section.

The basement bowl is coming to a stadium near you. Well near you if you live in say Denver. It's another helping of Friday night lights this week as Vancouver Whitecaps head to the altitude of Colorado to face the Rapids.
Joe, Nick, Gideon, and Peter are back with AFTN's latest preview podcast as they look ahead to the match. Can either team find some form and get out of their slump? Who will pick up the attacking play for the Whitecaps with Yordy Reyna missing for at least a month with a hamstring injury? Will Kei Kamara have a fired up field day against his former team to send a message?
This was recorded before the sacking of Colorado's Anthony Hudson, but all of the above and more are discussed in their look ahead to the match.
The guys also have a look back at their experience in Victoria on Sunday when they attended Pacific FC's inaugural match and tell the story about how they saved Canadian soccer!
And it amongst all the chat, Do You Know Who I Am? returns, with a double helping, and which band would you associate with each of our podcast team? Have a listen and find out!

What a weekend. What a week. It's had us away with the ferries, and that's where this rather different, and shorter than usual, episode of the AFTN Soccer Show has been recorded as we take to the high seas to travel to Victoria.

Happy Easter everyone. It wasn't quite the eggcellent Easter week that Vancouver Whitecaps yearned for. A win and a defeat is okay on paper, but how did it leave you feeling as it played out in front of your eyes?
We look back at the 'Caps win over LAFC and the loss in Orlando. Where did it all go right and wrong, and where does the team need to go from here? We chat a little with Marc Dos Santos to get his thoughts on that and how the team is shaping up eight games into his tenure.
We have a couple of feature interviews for you this week, both with a defensive slant, and featuring a current and an ex Whitecap. We sit down with goalkeeper Max Crepeau about his early days playing football as a kid in Quebec and the recent 'Caps matches.
Then we catch up with an old friend, LAFC right back Steven Beitashour to chat about not being valued as a defender in MLS, his career high, his new podcasting venture with Jordan Harvey, and more.
Plus we continue our 1979 NASL Soccer Bowl celebrations, look at the weeken'ds action in the MLS West, hear some gold from LAFC head coach Bob Bradley on the BC Place turf, and go a little French for this week's Football Violence Awareness Month Wavelength.

VAR has certainly given us a lot to talk about on the show this year, but at some stage we just want it to stop.
As Vancouver Whitecaps lost more points after a video review, we look back at the draw in Chicago on Friday night and the good, the bad, and the ugly things to come out of the game. We hear from both head coaches and look at what, if anything, the 'Caps can do to quickly turn their fortunes around.
It won't be easy with two tough games coming up this week, with LAFC coming to Vancouver on Wednesday and then a long trip to Orlando on Saturday. We look ahead to both of those matches and review the weekend's action in the MLS West.
Plus we imagine MLS teams as Game of Thrones house, continue our 1979 NASL Soccer Bowl celebrations, find out if Jon Erice fancies a chocolate digestive, bring back an old segment with new Whitecap Scott Sutter and The Young Boys are here for this week's Football Violence Awareness Month Wavelength.

It was all looking fairly good at half time, penalty horrorshow aside. It was looking like the Lion Ibrahimovic was sleeping tonight, with Doneil Henry as the Lion tamer. Then it all went horribly long, Vancouver Whitecaps looked a disorganised and dysfunctional mess, and another loss was handed out following another blank at home.
We look back at the good, the bad, and the ugly from the loss to LA, hear from both head coaches, chat with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and ponder where the 'Caps go from here.
Plus we look at the weekend's action in the MLS West, talk CPL jerseys and football clichés, continue our 1979 NASL Soccer Bowl celebrations, find out if Scott Sutter fancies a chocolate digestive, and The Business are back again in this week's Wavelength.

It's Vancouver Whitecaps first Friday night lights match of the new season this week and the Billy big boys of the MLS, LA Galaxy, are coming to town with their eight DPs.
Joe, Nick, and Gideon are back with AFTN's latest preview podcast as they look ahead to the match. Can the 'Caps build on their first points of the season against yet another Western Conference rival? Can they contain Zlatan and avoid giving away any more penalties to him? And does Portland's goal against LA last weekend give Vancouver quite a bit to work on in terms of getting through the Galaxy defence? All this and a lot more are discussed in a highly entertaining episode this week.
LA head to Vancouver with a young striker called Zlatan Ibrahimović making some headlines around MLS. He's only a second year player but he's shown signs that he has what it takes to make it in the league. The lads discuss the Swede and debate whether he'll turn ip, sorry, up.
And it amongst all the chat, Do You Know Who I Am? returns, as does the prediction game, and see if you can pinpoint the moment in the episode when Gideon's heart is broken. Have a listen!

What's the best thing for a winless team to have after some time off for the international break? If you said a derby game against an unbeaten side, then you'll be happy for what lies in store for Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday evening. You're also nuts.
But that is indeed what we have this weekend as Seattle Sounders head north to Vancouver to take on a Whitecaps side still looking for their first point in the Marc Dos Santos era.
Joe, Nick, and Peter are back with AFTN's latest preview podcast as they look ahead to the match? Has the time off invigorated the 'Caps? Does MDS go back to a 4-3-3 and who will play in it? Do Vancouver have enough to stop a rampant Jordan Morris and Seattle's deadly attack? All that and a lot more are discussed this week, and find out who gives Joe the clap.
And it amongst all the chat, Do You Know Who I Am? returns, as does the prediction game and more. Have a listen!

Wasn't it nice to have a week off from watching Vancouver Whitecaps get screwed over by "PRO" referee decisions? We've enjoyed it anyway.
The Canadian men's national team were back in town after an absence of two and a half years, seeing off French Guiana in their final CONCACAF Nations League qualifier, securing a place in Nations League Group A and at this year's Gold Cup. We chat about the match and what may lie in store internationally for Canada. Are we all getting too carried away by the exciting young talent assembled?
We also bring you a number of one on one interviews this week with Canadian national team players. Kicking things off is Mark-Anthony Kaye, who talks injury recovery, life with LAFC, and what Marc Dos Santos was like as a coach. Next up is Marcus Godhino who talks about life in Scotland with Hearts, the Edinburgh derby, and what it means to play for Canada right now.
Moving from the young ones to the old guard, we chat with current Whitecap Russell Teibert and Besiktas' Atiba Hutchinson, plus David Edgar talks about moving back to England to play with Hartlepool United, the lure of the CPL, and monkey hangers!
Plus we look at the state of the Whitecaps as they get set to head into their first Cascadian derby of the season, hear from Derek Cornelius after PRO admitted they got his tackle wrong in Houston, look at the weekend's action in the MLS Western Conference, and this week's Wavelength is a tribute to Johan Cruyff on the anniversary of his death.

The new MLS season is only three weeks old but we're already entering a bye week. That may or may not be a good thing for Vancouver Whitecaps, who have slumped to their worst ever start to a MLS season. But are the signs of turning it around there? That's one of the many things we look at in this latest AFTN Soccer Show.
We pick over the bones of another defeat, as the 'Caps lose 3-2 in Houston. There's another controversial penalty to discuss, and some less than stellar player, passing, and penetrative performances.
With an international break looming, the action continues in Vancouver as the Canadian men's national team come to town. We look ahead to Sunday's CONCACAF Nations League qualifier with French Guiana, the make up of the squad and how they may be utilised, and we hear from head coach John Herdman about the match, the Gold Cup, and the state of the program right now.

And will an attacking player ever score again for Vancouver? All that and a lot more are discussed this week, including some VAR talk.

How did Corey Baird sleep after earning his phantom penalty call for RSL against Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday? Will his embellishment fine that's surely coming keep him awake? How did you sleep? Like an angry baby like we did?
A lot was lost this weekend. Not just an hour's sleep or three points, but also faith in VAR, or what faith we had left in PRO officials running it.
We look back at a controversial weekend in MLS action as the 'Caps went down to a 1-0 loss to RSL and hear from both head coaches, Vancouver's Marc Dos Santos and Salt Lake's Mike Petke.
