The latest AFTN Soccer Show is out and it's another packed episode. Who needs live football to chat about when you can gab as much as us?!
We bring you the latest news from North America as football's shutdown continues. Finances continue to be the big talking point, with both MLS and the CPL looking for their players to take pay cuts with neither league looking likely to be in action any time soon.
Plus we chat about the new CPL players union that was announced this past week, discuss the Seattle Times article around the Sounders decision to play their home opener last month, look at Liga MX's decision to scrap promotion and relegation for five years and what that could mean to football on the continent, and take a look at Wayne Rooney's latest swipe at MLS.
We've got two in-depth interviews for you this episode, the first of which is with the last Whitecaps signing to take place before the shutdown, Portuguese midfielder Janio Bikel. Janio chats about what brought him to MLS, his footballing journey so far from Guinea-Bissau to Bulgaria via Portugal, Spain, and Holland, and tells us what it's like to just arrive in a new city and country only to then be locked down before you can familiarise yourself with it or your new teammates.
We then sit down with Whitecaps striker Fredy Montero for a career retrospective and a look at some of his Football Firsts, chatting with him about his time in Colombia, Seattle, Portugal, China, and here in Vancouver. We talk about his incredible knack for scoring on his debuts, that scary Sporting Lisbon training facility incident, and what he still hopes to achieve in his career.
Plus Whitecaps coach Marc Dos Santos tells us about what football documentaries he's enjoying watching right now, and we bring you our latest update on table topping FK Slutsk.

We're living in strange times. Worrying times. And let's be honest, somewhat scary times because no-one really knows what direction this whole coronavirus pandemic is going to take next. If the last week has shown us anything, it's that the situation can change dramatically by the hour, never mind by the day or week.
What we need right now is some kind of normality, and that's why we're not going anywhere at the AFTN Soccer Show and will still be bringing you weekly episodes of the show in these trouble times, to at least give you a modicum of entertainment and your football fix.
The episodes will be a little bit different in nature of course, starting with this one. There's no games to talk about for starters, but we'll look over the Whitecaps news from this past week, including a big Connect 4 win over Colorado and the club's reaction to the coronavirus crisis.
Jonathan Tannnenwald of the Philly Inquirer joins us on the phone to talk about the football shutdown across the world, the reaction to the crisis in North America, and to chat about what has been a terrible week publicity-wise for US Soccer.
With no immediate end to the coronavirus crisis in sight, could the MLS season already be over? Hopefully not, but just in case we bring you a tongue in cheek Whitecaps end of season review. Plus part one of our new football drama serial "It's Hard To Be The Son Of A Soccer Star", Football Violence Awareness Month continues in Wavelength, and Scottish band Peat & Diesel continue their residency as March's artists of the month.

Vancouver Whitecaps got their first win of the new MLS in LA on Saturday night and we're going to celebrate the unexpected three points in fine fashion in this episode of the show.
We look back at the highs and lows, and the hits and the misses, from the game and hear from both head coaches. Who played themselves into further starts? Whose performances have been somewhat lacking? And does MDS now have a (nice) selection problem ahead as a result?
We also have two interviews this week, first of all sitting down with Whitecaps' right back Jake Nerwinski, then we chat with Whitecaps CEO Mark Pannes about how he is settling in to the job and his relationship with the fans, both online and in person, and plans for the future.
Plus we look into how the coronavirus is affecting football worldwide and what it might mean for MLS and the CPL, our MLS Week in Review looks at another interest week in the Western Conference, Football Violence Awareness Month continues in Wavelength, and Scottish band Peat & Diesel continue their residency as March's artists of the month.

The 2020 MLS season didn't get underway anyone at Vancouver Whitecaps would have hoped for. A disappointing 3-1 home loss to Sporting Kansas City saw a poor performance and a lot of the spark and optimism from the preseason disappeared quicker than snow aff a dyke for many in the fanbase.
Can they bounce back this week in LA against an offensively stacked Galaxy side?
Joe, Peter, and Nick return for AFTN's latest preview podcast to chat about just that as they look ahead to the LA game, ponder the lessons learned from last week's loss, and try and work out just what team the 'Caps could put out there that would negate what, on paper at least, should be one of the most deadly attacks in MLS.
We also empty the mailbag, as the guys will look for as many answers as they can. Have a listen!

We've got something a little bit different for you in the latest AFTN Soccer Show. For one thing, it's short! But it's also not a news-laden episode, instead we're bringing you a goalkeeper's special.
The goalkeeper is the loneliest position on the pitch. It's a team game, yet you're your own man in many ways. A potential hero and villain, sometimes in the same match. What makes you want to be one? Do you have to have a special mentality to deal with the huge ups and downs? And is it true that all goalkeepers are a bit crazy?
We chat with Vancouver Whitecaps' Max Crepeau and Thomas Hasal to ask just that and a lot more.
It's a glove story.
Here's the rundown for the main segments from the episode:

2019. What a year. If you were a Vancouver Whitecaps fan it started with some hope and ended with some hope, but the bits inbetween were certainly bleak at times.
But elsewhere in Canadian soccer it was a year of excitement as the Canadian Premier League launched and the national team made some history before ultimately just falling short of taking a giant leap forward.
We'll look back at the year over the next two podcasts. All the highs, all the lows, all the forgettable moments, and the stuff that will last a long time in everyone's memories. And we kick things off this episode with a look at the months of January to June.
