It's a long weekend, so we have an extra long episode of the AFTN Soccer Show for you as we took over the airwaves at CiTR radio for two and a half hours on Sunday night.
Vancouver Whitecaps showed a never say die spirit in Dallas on Saturday afternoon (or should that be Dai with a Welshman in charge?), fighting back from 2-0 down to score a couple of very late goals to earn the unlikeliest of points. We look back over the dramatic afternoon and chat about the main talking points coming out of it. Plus we hear from both head coaches, Dallas' Oscar Pareja and Vancouver's Carl Robinson.
We've got two feature interviews for you this episode. First up is Whitecaps' Canadian defender Marcel de Jong, as he joins us to chat about the stability of signing a new contract extension. Then former Whitecap Kekuta Manneh joins us to chat about his move to Mexico, Columbus Crew falling short in their quest for last year's MLS Cup, and what it means to his hometown of Austin to possibly be getting a new MLS team.
We also take a look at the latest news surrounding the Canadian Premier League, in what's been a big week for them. Plus how the weekend played out for the MLS western teams, Whitecaps midfielder Jordon Mutch talks television, and The Others make their debut in our Wavelength section.
Here's the full episode rundown of the main segments from the show:
02.49: Dallas v Vancouver match analysis
17.33: Oscar Pareja and Carl Robinson audio
26.15: Whitecaps chat - player analysis, talking points surrounding the team, news of the week

With Gideon still absent after an unfortunate incident with Daisy Duck, Joe and Nick man the barricades in a way that the Whitecaps defence can only look on at with jealousy.
It's the guys first Review/Preview show of the season and for once they don't just get to look ahead all joyfully at the weekend's action to come. Now they have to suffer the pain of the Sunday crew and pick over a disappointing display by the 'Caps.
Vancouver's 2-2 draw with San Jose Earthquakes is in the spotlight. What went wrong this time, as another two points were dropped at home? More chances wasted, more sloppy defending, more disgruntlement amongst the fanbase. It's not the happiest time in Whitecapsland and the guys try to address as much of that as they can. Plus we hear postgame comments from both head coaches, San Jose's Mikael Stahre and Vancouver's Carl Robinson.
Can the 'Caps turn things around in a timely manner? Well we won't have to wait too long to find out, with the team heading into the intense afternoon Texan heat to face an in-form, and frankly terrifying prospect, at FC Dallas. Is this a throwaway game? Should the 'Caps just go for a near full rotation and go young? We've seen understrength teams battle for unexpected points this year, or does that only happen against the 'Caps.
If we're quaking in our boots at the prospect of this one, after recent results, is there actually any team in MLS right now that we can look forward to facing? All this and more awaits your earholes in our latest episode. Have a listen!

What a busy weekend it's been. Vancouver Whitecaps on Friday, the Provincial cup finals on Saturday and Sunday, TSS Rovers kick off their PDL season on Monday, then it's more 'Caps and more Rovers. But fret not, we have it all covered for you in our latest episode.
We kick things off with a look back at the Whitecaps 2-2 draw with Houston Dynamo on Friday night. Late drama and a lot of frustration at the missed chances once again on display. We pick over the bones of the game and the players performances and hear from both head coaches, Houston's Wilmer Cabrera and Vancouver's Carl Robinson.
Next up is San Jose on Wednesday. The Earthquakes got out of their three game losing streak, and seven game winless streak, at the weekend. Can they make it back to back road wins? We look ahead to the match up, who the key players might be, and what we should expect from the 'Caps, who have three games in nine days.
It's also the season opener for TSS Rovers today. We chat with head coach Colin Elmes about the season ahead and lessons learned from last year, and to one of their newest additions, player/coach, and former TFC man, Nick Soolsma, fresh from winning a Provincial title with BCT Rovers Tigers United.
Plus we take a look at the latest Whitecaps salaries that have come out, see how the weekend played out for the MLS western teams, discuss the latest big Canadian Premier League news and other headlines, and Goldie Lookin' Chain return for our Wavelength section.

Episode 266 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Current Direction - Vancouver v Houston Preview)
Thursday May 10, 2018
Thursday May 10, 2018
Finally, we have back to back home games! But be careful what you wish for because that means watching Vancouver Whitecaps live twice in the space of six days. Are you ready for that?
We'll try and help you get ready for the first match on Friday, as we take a look at all things Houston Dynamo in AFTN's latest preview podcast.
They're a team that don't travel well, but are coming off a late 3-2 win over LA Galaxy. Are they hitting form at just the worst time for the 'Caps? Can a shaky Vancouver defence handle the likes of Elis and Quioto? What changes will Carl Robinson make this week? And will anyone be on the end of all those crosses this game?
Gideon is away dressing up as a Disney Princess for this episode, raising the average age of the team to not quite DC United levels, but getting up there. So that leaves Joe and Nick to chat about all of the above and much more, including World Cup jerseys, answering a barrage of listeners questions, and playing our prediction game.
Have a listen!

Episode 265 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Stinko de Mayo)
Monday May 07, 2018
Monday May 07, 2018
Remember when Vancouver Whitecaps were being lauded for their excellent road record? That seems so long ago now. Saturday's 1-0 loss in Minnesota was the third straight away defeat for the 'Caps. This one against an already undermanned team that played 40 minutes of the second half with ten men. Definitely a Cinco de Mayo to forget.
We look back at the high and lows from the match, talk line-ups and formations, bring you our latest player rankings, and hear from both head coaches, Minnesota's Adrian Heath and Vancouver's Carl Robinson.
Where now for the Whitecaps? Did the RSL win last week just paper over the cracks or should we just be content that the team is currently sitting in third spot?
We also see how the weekend played out for the MLS western teams, discuss the latest big Canadian Premier League news and other headlines, play another round of Do You Know Who I Am? and Half Man Half Biscuit return for our Wavelength section.
Here's the full episode rundown of the main segments from the show:
02.14: Minnesota v Vancouver match analysis
23.47: Adrian Heath and Carl Robinson audio
33.28: Was the RSL win last week just papering over cracks?
38.45: Whitecaps player analysis
49.01: Do You Know Who I Am?
53.07: MLS West Week in Review
67.12: Wavelength - Half Man Half Biscuit - Mathematically Safe

Episode 264 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Loony Tunes - Minnesota v Vancouver Preview)
Thursday May 03, 2018
Thursday May 03, 2018
It wasn't pretty at times but Vancouver Whitecaps got back to winning ways last weekend against Real Salt Lake. Can they keep it going back on the road, and make it two straight wins as they head into Minnesota to take on the United Loons?
Joe, Nick, and Gideon are back to look ahead to that Minnesota match and what to make of a United team that's had a very up and down season so far. How big a threat will Darwin Quintero be to the 'Caps defence and do they have any other one with all their injury woes? On Vancouver's side, who keeps their spot after last week's win and which players that missed out will come back into the mix?
We look at all that, plus a lot more, and bring you, not one, but two, "Do You Know Who I Am?" segments, our prediction game, and preview TSS Rovers second PDL season.
Have a listen!

Episode 263 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Taps-Aff)
Monday Apr 30, 2018
Monday Apr 30, 2018
The questions everyone wanted answered after last week's hammering in Kansas City was how would Vancouver Whitecaps' players react and what kind of mood would the fans be in. After a week building up to it, we got some answers at BC Place on Friday night.
The Whitecaps got the job done against Real Salt Lake and came away with all three points, but it wasn't a performance for the ages against a pretty poor looking visiting side. Still, three points are three points and it ended the 'Caps three game losing streak. Steve, Zach, and Chris pick over the bones of it all. Is it a turning point or was it just papering over the cracks?
We also hear from both head coaches, discuss the dissenting voices amongst the media and fanbase leading up to the match, see how the weekend played out for the MLS western teams, discuss the latest big Canadian Premier League news, and Culture Vulture has a song about Roy of the Rovers in our Wavelength section.
Here's the full episode rundown of the main segments from the show:
02.20: Whitecaps v RSL match analysis
30.48: Mike Petke and Carl Robinson audio
36.45: Fines Lines - Dissenting voices against Robbo and the FO in the fanbase and media

Episode 262 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Feeling Salty)
Thursday Apr 26, 2018
Thursday Apr 26, 2018
Friday's match against Real Salt Lake isn't so much a must win for Vancouver Whitecaps, as a must not lose. A defeat would certainly pile pressure on beleaguered coach Carl Robinson, but it's not likely going to be the tipping point. This is very much an avoid defeat at all costs encounter, as the 'Caps try to put an end to their three game losing streak.
Joe, Gideon, and Nick are back to look ahead to Friday's match at BC Place. Were lessons learned from the 2-1 loss in Utah just three weeks ago? RSL are winless on the road, what kind of team and threat can we expect from them here in Vancouver? With the importance of this match, and with some players missing through suspension and injury for the 'Caps, does Carl Robinson blow up the team and try something different, or does he have to persevere with his regular base and hope they can turn things around?
We look at all that, plus a lot more, and bring you another "Do You Know Who I Am?" and our prediction game.
Have a listen!

Episode 261 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Hit For Six)
Monday Apr 23, 2018
Monday Apr 23, 2018
If last week was a bad weekend for Vancouver Whitecaps, this one was far worse. Not only did they lose 6-0 in Kansas City, seven of their Western rivals picked up three points and they fell out of the promotion places when you look at points per game. Clearly not the response sought or expected after the failings in the last two matches.
We pick over carcass of that loss in KC and there's a lot to ponder. Where did it all go wrong and where does the team go from here? Team selection, tactics, poor discipline, horrible defending, and Robbo's postgame comments. We talk about all those things and a lot more.
Plus we have a chat with LAFC assistant coach Marc Dos Santos, see how the weekend played out for the MLS western teams, find out if the Cap killer Johnny Russell fancies a chocolate digestive, play Do You Know Who I Am? and Half Man Half Biscuit are back in our Wavelength section.

Vancouver Whitecaps are back on the road again, so at least there's perhaps some hope of getting something out of this week's match! After two straight defeats can Carl Robinson find a band of sunshine for his squad in KC?
Joe, Gideon, and Nick are back with AFTN's latest preview podcast. They'll look at the threat posed by Sporting Kansas City, what changes the Whitecaps might be looking to make, and how they see the game playing out. With Kei Kamara out for three weeks, how will Anthony Blondell fare up front? Can this help unleash the Yordy Reyna we knew and loved last season? And just what midfielders will we see this week? We discuss all this and a lot more.
We have a special guest this week as Michael sits down for a chat with Sporting KC forward, and fellow Scot, Johnny Russell (at 09.15 mark) to talk about his move to MLS, settling in at KC, his growth as a player from his early days in Scottish football, this weekend's match, and more.
Plus another "Do You Know Who I Am?" and our prediction game.

Sick of teams from LA yet? I know we are.
LAFC came to BC Place on Friday night and fairly easily picked apart an uninspiring and disappointing Kamaraless Vancouver Whitecaps. We do some picking ourselves, as we pick over the bones of the 2-0 loss, ponder where it all went wrong, how it can be improved, can we cope without Kei, where's the creativity, and where do some players fit into this team.
Plus we sit down for a chat with Russell Teibert and talk with Jordan Harvey about his homecoming.
We'll also look at the weekend's action amongst the MLS Western Conference teams and Flyscreen feature in this week's Wavelength section with a song about Panini stickers and Willie Johnston.
Here's the full episode rundown of the main segments from the show:
03.45: Whitecaps v LAFC match analysis
28.40: Bob Bradley and Carl Robinson audio
36.15: Techera's tackle and Felipe's flop
42.15: Trying to solve some Whitecaps woes - home blanks, lack of creativity, fitting players in, rankings, polls, mailbag

Thursday Apr 12, 2018
Thursday Apr 12, 2018
It's Jordan Harvey night at BC Place on Friday! The former Whitecap returns to the place he has tattooed on himself but it will be many happy returns or a homecoming to forget? The Whitecaps are coming home themselves after a mixed couple of games on the road, hoping it won't be a case of Friday night frights under the Friday night lights.
Joe, Gideon, and Nick are back with AFTN's latest preview podcast. They'll look at the threat posed by LAFC, what changes the Whitecaps might be looking to make, and how they see the game playing out. What will have the biggest impact - LA's potent attack or their goal shipping defence? And how might VAR screw the 'Caps over this week?
Plus another "Do You Know Who I Am?" and our prediction game.

Episode 257 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Salt Pinchers - RSL analysis)
Monday Apr 09, 2018
Monday Apr 09, 2018
Death, taxes, the Whitecaps getting screwed by VAR, and being unable to break down a poor team. That's what feels inevitable in life right now.
The 'Caps headed to RSL and it wasn't so much a case of the result being taken with a pinch of salt, but the Salty ones pinching a result. We pick over the bones of a poor outing in Utah, have a look at what went wrong in the 2-1 loss, and look at the individual performances of some of the 'Caps players and Robbo.
We'll also look at the weekend's action amongst the MLS Western Conference teams, bring you a Flash Five about footballing brothers, talk Fish and Chips with Gordon Forrest, chat Panini stickers, introduce our new Swap Shop segment, and Halftime Oranges feature in this week's Wavelength section.

Episode 256 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Snowballs - RSL Preview Show)
Thursday Apr 05, 2018
Thursday Apr 05, 2018
What's the difference between snowmen and snowwomen? Snowballs.
What's the difference between Vancouver Whitecaps April trip to play Real Salt Lake and last years? Snowballs.
What a difference a year makes. When the 'Caps headed to Sandy, Utah around this time last season, the pitch was unplayable, covered in snow, and players were throwing snowballs at each other. This time around it's going to be rainy and in the mid teens temperature wise. The 'Caps will also be hoping for a different result and in the road form that they're in, you have to fancy them to get it.
Joe, Gideon, and Nick are back with AFTN's latest preview podcast. They'll look at the threat posed by Real Salt Lake, what changes the Whitecaps might be looking to make, and how they see the game playing out. Plus another "Do You Know Who I Am?" and our prediction game.

Episode 255 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Crew Cut - Columbus Postgame Show)
Monday Apr 02, 2018
Monday Apr 02, 2018
If the Crew do end up leaving Columbus this offseason, it's likely Vancouver Whitecaps will be the saddest team to see them go. Saturday's win for the 'Caps made it four straight victory in Columbus. We clearly enjoy being there, even if the Crew owners don't.
We look back at all the main talking points from the Whitecaps come from behind win, hear from head coaches Gregg Berhalter and Carl Robinson, and look at what players excelled and which ones didn't.
We'll also look at the weekend's action the MLS Western Conference, a very good couple of days for the Whitecaps for sure, plus we'll take a look at the first month of the 'Caps affiliation with USL side Fresno FC, chat Canadian Premier League and player development, and we find out if Jordon Mutch fancies a chocolate digestive.

Thursday Mar 29, 2018
Thursday Mar 29, 2018
Let's just forget last week's game against LA Galaxy. We'll put it down to the Vancouver Whitecaps disease of struggling against weakened teams. They always seems to do better against the better ones, so at least that gives some home ahead of a trip to the Eastern Conference leading Columbus Crew.
Joe Deasy, Gideon Hill, and Nicolaas Rupprecht preview the match, looking at what we can expect from a fired up Crew side. What will the Whitecaps look like? Can they break down a team that doesn't have 10 men behind the ball? Will there actually be some decent delivery this week? All this and a lot more are discussed in this week's preview episode.
We're also joined by Whitecaps midfielder Jordon Mutch to talk about settling in to Vancouver, what he's made of MLS so far, and what he expects this weekend.
All this, plus "Do You Know Who I Am?" and our prediction game. Have a listen!

It's good to have constants in your life, right? When a weakened team comes to B.C. Place, Vancouver Whitecaps fail to rise to the occasion seems to be one of those, and it was the same again on Saturday night when a highly depleted LA Galaxy side came and left with a point in a 0-0 draw.
We pick over the bones of that game and individual performances, and hear from Galaxy head coach Sigi Schmid and 'Caps coach Carl Robinson. Plus we look back at the Whitecaps report card on the squad four games in.
Turning our attention to the 'Caps defence, we discuss the overturning of Kendall Waston's red card, sit down for a chat with Uruguayan centre back Jose Aja about his move to Vancouver and how he's settling in, and we find out if Aaron Maund fancies a chocolate digestive.
All this plus we chat with Canada national team and LAFC midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye, look at the week's action in MLS West, discuss MLS derbies, look at some of the stories making the news around the world, and Half Man Half Biscuit are back in this week's Wavelength section.

Vancouver Whitecaps' record against LA Galaxy hasn't been too shabby these past couple of seasons. Gone is the MLS Cup Galaxy team to be feared, and it feels like last season, their worst in their history, was a rebuilding one that went horribly wrong from the outset.
Is Sigi Schmid going to turn them around this season? They've a win and a loss under their belts so far and head to BC Place on Saturday night to take on a Whitecaps side looking to secure their best ever start to a MLS season.
Joe Deasy, Gideon Hill, and Nicolaas Rupprecht preview the match, looking at what we can expect from the Galaxy, what will the Whitecaps look like, can they bounce back from the loss in Atlanta pretty quickly, and a lot more.
We're also joined by Corner of the Galaxy co-host and producer Josh Guesman to talk about all things LA Galaxy from last season's disappointments, to this season's expectations, and what it's like to have a real LA rival in the city as the teams get set to meet next week (at 14.56 mark).
All this, plus "Do You Know Who I Am?", our prediction game, and a look over the results of the latest anonymous ESPN poll of MLS players.

Episode 251 - The AFTN Soccer Show (A Week To Forget)
Monday Mar 19, 2018
Monday Mar 19, 2018
It's not been a great week to be a football fan in Vancouver. First it was announced that the city won't be hosting any matches if the bid for the 2026 World Cup is successful, then the Whitecaps were Elfathed in Houston, going down a man and to a 4-1 defeat.
We're joined in the studio by Joe Deasy and Gideon Hill to chat about both of those topics, but there's some good news too as we reveal the first 18 names on the 2018 TSS Rovers PDL roster with head coaches Colin Elmes and Will Cromack.
All this and a lot more in a two hour plus episode. Have a listen!

Episode 250 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Atlanta Preview Show)
Thursday Mar 15, 2018
Thursday Mar 15, 2018
Vancouver Whitecaps' perfect season is still on! Two games. Two wins. Can it get any better?! They're going to have a tough time maintaining that 100% start this week though, with big spending Atlanta United their next foes.
Joe Deasy, Gideon Hill, and Nicolaas Rupprecht preview the 'Caps match in Atlanta this weekend. There likely will be changes to the starting XI, some enforced, some not. Who goes in? How should the 'Caps line up to counter Atlanta's three at the back and five in midfield? And should the home side be feared for their attacking strength or are they ripe for the picking at the back with the Whitecaps style of play?
We look at all this and more in today's show, as we find out who Joe thinks looks sexy in a Whitecaps shirt and which player caused Gideon to lose sleep as he lay thinking about him in bed. Plus "Do You Know Who I Am?" and our prediction game are back, and we even talk a bit of Football Manager.
Have a listen!
